Chinese and Western Systems of Ear Acupuncture
- Curable
Auriculotherapy, one of Gerie Keh's favorite
and special programs, is a therapeutic intervention in
which stimulation of the auricle of the external ear is
utilized to alleviate health conditions in other parts
of the body. While originally based upon the ancient Chinese
practice of acupuncture, the somatotopic correspondence
of specific parts of the body to specific parts of the
ear was first developed in modern France.
All systems of acupuncture began with the original Chinese
medical text, the Yellow Emperor's Classic
of Internal Medicine, compiled in 500 B.C.
In this text, all six yang(blood) meridians were said
to be directly connected to the auricle, whereas the six
yin(spirit) meridians were indirectly connected to the
ear by their corresponding yang meridian. These ancient
Chinese ear acupuncture points were not organized somatotopically,
but were arranged on the ear as a scattered array of non-meridian
points with no apparent order.
Gerie Keh was first introduced to auriculartherapy
while in college and she became very interested in it
instantly. Her interest was what motivated her to pursue
further research into this subject matter. Eventually
toward the end of her studies and during her internship,
her research work yielded very interesting results. In
1992, her thesis in auriculartherapy was published
in Shanghai Physical Education Science Daily.
The programs commonly treated by auricular therapy are:
Stop smoking, weight control, drug addiction and alcohol
addition
- Preventive
Auricular therapy can also be used to detect if the
body is prone to any future malfunctions. We are in a
joint venture with a group of engineering consultants
in the development of a computerized auricular therapy
machine for detecting prospective body malfunctions.
If successful, this will result in preventing a great
number of diseases such as cancer and others from
occurring and treating them in their early stages before
they cause harm to the human body.
